Delta SkyMiles members who want to move up to a better seat category after they’ve booked their flight can now pay for that upgrade with miles instead of just cash- and do it online.
The new post-purchase mileage upgrade option is available only for flights operated by Delta. It can be used for individual segments of a trip or the full journey, and it’s a good option for business travelers whose employers only allow them to buy economy class tickets and won’t cover upgrades on the company’s dime.
“A customer can log in to Delta.com to buy Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select, or Delta One as an add-on, or ancillary purchase, as available — regardless of where or how the original ticket was purchased,” the airline said. Previously, Delta frequent flyers had to the sometimes lengthy process of calling Delta to buy upgrades using their miles.
